We all know bass love hanging out around grass and vegetation but when they move up into the really thick stuff they can be hard to catch. When this happens, I use a technique referred to as Punching. In this technique, you use a heavy weight ranging from ¾ oz to 2 ounces to penetrate the mat and reach those hidden bass.
Punching is a really easy technique to learn, but it requires some pretty heavy equipment to be successful. Flipping sticks, braided line, heavy hooks and smaller baits are the norm because getting them to bite is just the first step. Then, you have to get them out of all that grass. It’s a challenge, but the results make the effort well worthwhile. Come on out on the lake with me in this video and you’ll see what I mean.
