That New Boat Smell!

There’s nothing quite like walking into the garage and all you can smell is new fiberglass and fresh carpet.  I made the drive last week to the Phoenix plant in Winchester, TN and picked up my new 2014 Phoenix 721.  After hours, upon hours of discussion of what color is should be and 10 weeks of wondering if I made the right choice, I have to say that I think it came out great.

I may have gone a little overboard with the options on this one, but I made up my mind that I wanted to get it just like I wanted.  For the electronics, I went with a Lowrance HDS Touch 12, Touch 9, Structure Scan, Sonic Hub, Point 1 antennas and Lwx1 (SiriusXM weather module).  I got a chance to play with the new depth finders this past weekend and the picture is second to none.  It’ll take me a while to learn all the ins and outs, but they are super easy to use.

For the rest of the boat, I added the padded front deck, 36V trolling motor, 4 bank charger, E-Start system, dual Power Pole Blades (color matched), shocks on the trailer, upgraded F2 jack and winch and stainless steel fenders.  All this is in addition to the standard features that Phoenix puts in all their boats.  Without a doubt, this is the best equipped boat I’ve ever run.

Best of all, I was able to get the factory to add some extra power outlets for my video cameras.  Keep an eye out this summer for some new videos.

After I picked up the boat, it was off to Bryan’s Marine in Videlia, LA for the final rigging.  I made an appointment for early on Friday and they had me rigged and ready for the water by 1pm.  It was a great experience dealing with Joey and the rest of his crew.  If your in the market for a new Phoenix, they are not only the closest dealer to Jackson, but also one of the easiest dealerships I’ve ever worked with.

So if you’re out of the Reservoir and see me running around, be sure to wave.  I’m always happy to see new folks and talk about fishing or show you around my new ride.

Thanks to the sponsors who make this all possible:  Lowrance Electronics, Phoenix Bass Boats, Denali Rods, Bryan’s Marine, BoatUS Angler, Power Pole, Costa del Mar Sunglasses and Mississippi Van Lines.  Without all of you, none of this would be possible.
